Cafe Cabernet - July 3

W and I went to Cafe Cabernet tonight. Hadn't been in a while and read that the chef and menu were new. The place seems to have been freshened up a lot.

Nicely spaced tables on several levels. Two bars. Private room available. Cloth napkins, comfy chairs, water glasses in a cool shape. Very empty room, but lots of staff around. Maybe it gets busy later?

We were presented with a one page daily menu, with wines by the glass on the back and another huge wine list. Lots of little plates and several entrees. We love tapas so ordered 4 small plates, 2 at a time. Prices excellent and there were at least 8 plates I was tempted to order.

Wine came in carafe so pours are always similar. Loved the oversized wine glass.

Tempura shrimp with coconut and chicken kabobs came first. Chicken nicely cooked, some heat, but not much flavor. I'd give it a B-. Shrimp plump and tasty. Tempura dark and heavy, not really tempura. Sauce good. B+.

Tempura onions and green beans and pulled pork sliders next. Vegetables in the heavy tempura were greasy, but good. Home made ranch dressing excellent. Serving too large to finish and killed the mood for dessert. B-. Pork tender and tangy, bun did not need to be dipped in butter, as it was. Generous portion of slaw was a bit mild in flavor. A- for the dish.
